MOKOPANE - Five gymnasts from the Marshall Gymnastics Academy (MGA) participated in the Artistic North Zone Festival competition last weekend in Kempton Park, Gauteng.
The North Zone competition sees gymnasts from Limpopo, Central Gauteng, Eastern Gauteng, Vaal and Mpumalanga compete against each other.
This is the final competition for levels 1-3 and the MGA gymnasts performed well.
Keanu Potgieter received a gold medal (level 1), while Miqayla Venter won gold and Jennezee Vermeulen earned a silver medal for level 2. Jessica Essakow and Lungile Mahlangu earned a bronze medal each for level 3.
MGA coaches Richard, Stephen and Marinda Marshall said they are proud of the gymnasts, but added that the sport is not only about medals.
"We take great joy in seeing our gymnasts grow - to be a good gymnast takes practice and a lot of dedication," says Marinda. "Gymnastics as a sport is not only great for the physique, but also enhances flexibility, balance, control, fine motor skills and coordination."
"At MGA we aim to assist children in building a strong character to help them with their life skills," says Richard.
Stephen adds that he is proud to see his gymnasts improve, not only their physical performance, but also their ability to handle life with a positive attitude.
Richard and Marinda are both registered to coach internationally after completing their Acrobatics Academy training in December 2013.
MGC, situated on the corner of Fourie and Geyser Streets in Mokopane, is now able to offer this professional coaching opportunity to Mokopane and the surrounding area. Richard and Marinda coach at MGC on Mondays to Thursdays from 14:00 – 18:00. MGC presents classes in Rhythmic, Girls artistic, Boys artistic, Funastics (for beginners from 3 years old), and Tumbling and Adult fitness classes. Feel free to contact them on 079 217 8410 for more information or to arrange a free training class.
The senior gymnasts, level 4 and up, will compete for Limpopo colours next weekend in Modimolle with the national competition taking place in October.
