The 24 municipal team battle it out in different sporting codes which include soccer, netball, darts, pool and volleyball. Mogalakwena Municipality was crowned the IMSSA Limpopo champions following its participation in this tournament.

The games are part of municipal wellness initiative which encourages teamwork, building relationships and keeping municipal workers fit and healthy.

This annual sporting event takes place at a provincial level - paving way for the international tournament known as the Southern Africa Inter-Municipal Sports Association (SAIMSA) games that takes place in September every year.

The chairperson of the Local Organising Committee, Tshepo Mokwena said, “We are extremely happy with our achievement in this year’s tournament as have obtained position 4 in netball, position two in darts and position one in soccer. Our boys defeated Steve Tshwete Municipality on penalties. We want to show the community of Limpopo that Mogalakwena Municipality will represent them well in the SAIMSA games come September. We extend our deepest gratitude to the leadership of Mogalakwena Municipality for their overwhelming support.”

Mayor Andrina Matsemela said, “I guess other municipalities will learn a thing or two from this dedicated team of employees. Participating in this tournament is a responsibility of all of us, not only the organizing committees. We are proud and happy with their achievement and I hope other municipalities will draw inspiration from this achievement.”
